THE
CHILDREN WITH HIDDEN TALENTS
An
Arts Exhibition to promote school children’s talents as artists was organized
by Mkongojo Arts Group of Bagamoyo at
Mwambao Primary School on Tuesday morning.
Ninety percent of the
children’s displayed pencil sketches on plain drawing papers were an effort
supervised and encouraged by the artists of Mkongojo Arts Group led by the
newly registered NGO chairman Siasa Kondo Sultani who is also a teacher by profession. The group was recently
registered as a recognized arts body by BASATA (the council of Artists in
Tanzania) under certificate No. BST/5677.
The passionate artists
confessed that the children and they themselves, could have produced better
“Tingatinga Style” of paintings and oil or water based paintings by children
but they did not have sufficient financial backing. What they needed were
simple sketching papers, colour pencils, water and oil paints and different
types of painting brush.
The Arts Exhibition was
actually to tell the public including the parents that basically the children
had natural talent as artists. “ Given
the opportunity to have the basic facilities, the children could turn out to be
wonderful artists,” the Secretary of the Mkongojo (walking stick in Kiswahili)
group Boniface Mwiru told the under signed writer.
Mkongojo Arts Group
requested Bagamoyo News assistance to convey their request to Good Samaritans
and donors for material or financial assistance. Their contact telephone
numbers are: Chairman Siasa Kondo Sultani +255715201014; Secretary Boniface Bwiru
+255719538893.
