2ND BAGAMOYO MARATHON " A GREAT SUCCESS"

The historical Second Bagamoyo Marathon 2015 attracted hundreds of spectators and registered slightly more than four hundred athletes who included youngsters and even middle aged men and women. The marathon was classified in three categories 21.1 kms; 10 kms and 5 kms.

The best timing recorded in the 21.1 kms was that of the agile athlete Gabriel Gerald who recorded 1hr. 13 min. 10.2 sec which compared to the national record of Tanzania set by the famous Juma Ikangaa of 2hrs.8.0 mints for a full length marathon of 42 kms was no where close to it. The second winner was Panueli Mkungo and third was Dickson Marwa.

In the female group for 21.1 kms first was the slim and short student from Arusha Angelina Tsere followed by Josephine Massawe from Kilimanjaro and third Magdalena Crispin from Arusha. Other winners, top three in 10kms and 5kms for male and female sections were also awarded medals and cash prizes.

Almost all the athletes who finished the marathon successfully were given the insignia of the Bagamoyo Marathon 2015. All in all, the cash prizes subject to further confirmation, amounted to TShs. 5,000,000/=. A good number of donors sponsored the marathon race and Azam TV channel telecast live show of the event which also included aerobics exercise staged by several jogging clubs of Bagamoyo. The open school ground of Mwanamakuka Primary School  was full of excitement with intermittent music from a DJ and a local music band and "nyama choma" with a variety of soft drinks donated by the famous brand Azam and Red Bull.

for the organizers choice of staging the marathon in this historical town. He congratulated the organizers choice of  the catchword "prevent non-communicable diseases...start running".

A First Aid camp was in hand installed by Afya Club with doctors from Muhimbili Medical Centre and Bagamoyo District Hospital. Dr. Henry Kibona and some of his assistants managed to look after fifteen exhaustion cases or some with stiff muscles. One received arm bruises from a bad fall on the road side.
