REGISTRATION OF VOTERS

A supervisor at the registration of voters for the national elections in October this year is helping voters to fill the form just before registration. This was at the registration station at the Bagamoyo District Hospital, one of the 109 stations in Bagamoyo district.

A technical operator of the Biometrict Voters Registration electronic machine Steven Munga gets ready to start the process of registration at one of the stations in Bagamoyo. The exercise started on Thursday  morning and continued to Sunday with a close-up time at 6.00pm on each day.

DAR ES SALAAM: President Jakaya Kikwete reshuffled the top leadership post of the National Electoral Commission by replacing the Director of Elections. The post will now be managed by Mr. Kailima Ramadhani Kombwey.

The new Director replaces Mr. Julius Benedicto  Mallaba  who has been appointed Judge of the High Court of Tanzania. 

Before his appointment, Mr. Kombwey  was holding the post of director of administration at the National Electoral Commission.

In Bagamoyo District, the registration and issuance of the identity cards of the voters started early morning on Thursday with easily manageable number of people. At times, the BVR electronic machines had technical hiccups but were promptly rectified by the busy supervisors who shuttled from one station to the other to sort problems.

It was earlier announced that the exercise was programmed to take three days only but went on to Sunday also closing at 6.00pm according to the rules and regulations of the National Electoral Commission. One of the officers said that there were 109 such sub stations for registering voters.
