"DIWANI CUP" IN DUNDA WARD TAKES-OFF



PRIMARY TOURNAMENTS BEFORE SHUKURU KAWAMBA CUP

The preparations for the Shukuru Kawambwa Cup football tournament in Bagamoyo District are in the pipe-line and meanwhile the best football teams to participate are in the selection stages.

Inter-league matches are being conducted in the Ward Level which is said to be 7 in total numbers. Two best teams with highest points in each ward will stand a chance to enter into the Shukuru Kawambwa Cup tournament. There will be a total of 14 teams to contest for the tournament, described as a great source of entertainment, competition and soccer promotion event.

The tournament is named after the Member of Parliament for Bagamoyo Constituency, Dr. Shukuru Kawamba who is also the Minister for Education & Vocational Training. A week ago, Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa who is himself a very keen sportsman and a Jogger, donated 1400 pairs of good quality track suits to sportsmen and women. Nearly thirty clubs and groups gathered at a large presentation ceremony attended by not less than 2,500 sportsmen and women, including primary school pupils at a football ground.

The primary football matches at “Kata Level” in Dunda Ward,  contesting for Diwani Cup donated by Counsellor Hashim Akida began on 1st July at the football ground of Mwanakalenge Primary School. There are nine teams split into two two. The best two teams with highest points scored will be given the ticket to the Kawambwa Cup. Similarly other wards are also organizing themselves to get best two teams in each ward.

Pre-match meetings are held in the morning (11.00am) in the Dunda Ward Office, to discuss about the match to follow later in the afternoon hours. The catchword of this primary tournament is “DISCIPLINE TO DOMINATE SPORTS”.
