The
Minister for Education & Vocational Training Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa today openly confessed that
today’s activities conducted by students, CCM Party leaders and some civilians
in Bagamoyo, were the most satisfactory
and enjoyable since the last several years.
“Today
I shall go home a happy and satisfied man just because all of you have done a
wonderful job of community service, planting seedlings, bringing 400 new members of Chama cha Mapinduzi, cleaning the
garbage of the district hospital,” he told more than a thousand students and
CCM leaders with a big smile.
Dr.
Shukuru Kawambwa is the elected Member of Parliament for Bagamoyo Constituency,
having studied his primary education in Bagamoyo and higher studies in Dar es
Salaam secondary school and the University College of Dar es Salaam. After
working as a lecturer in the faculty of engineering he proceeded to UK where he
achieved his doctorate degree in engineering.
After
narrating his academic career, his serious advice to all the students was to
take the academic career seriously and to make a point to reach the top of the
ladder. He even advised the students of arts and crafts to excel in their field
and attract foreign tourists.
Students
from several higher learning institutions like TASUBA (College of Arts and
Culture), SLADS (School of Library, Arhives & Documentation Studies);
Fisheries Research Institute at Mbegani, Agency for Development of Educational
Management (ADEM) and the Branch of the University of Dar es Salaam for Health
& Allied Science joined hands in the day long hectic but enjoyable
programme.
The
auditorium of the College of Arts & Culture (TASUBA) was filled to the
capacity, vibrating with cultural dances and drum beats. Some hit patriotic
songs in praise of the ruling party CCM attracted the Minister, his entourage of CCM Cadres, students and UWT
members to the open floor. The several hit songs appeared to be centre of
attraction and a medium for relieving problematic tensions.
The
federal body of the students organizations working under the CCM brought in 400
new CCM Members and since it was not practical to present to individual
members, about twenty representatives were given to representatives of the
various institutions. Immediately after the presentations, a solemn ceremony in
the form of membership oath was conducted and the entire auditorium stood-up to
join in.
Before
the programme reached the late afternoon hours, a fellowship lunch was arranged
for the hundreds of the attendees. The entire cost was financed by volunteers,
mainly from some CCM leaders and the auditorium provided free of any charges.
