DRIVERS' STRIKE CALLED OFF

The strike by bus drivers particularly in Dar es Salaam and elsewhere which had disrupted transport system for bus commuters resumed to normal situation after settlement of understanding between the drivers’ association and Government.

The disruption of transportation system for bus commuters had caused havoc almost throughout the country with losses of business, late reporting to work places and school students reporting late attendance.  The strike by bus drivers particularly in Dar es Salaam and elsewhere which had disrupted transport' was caused by their demand including absence of written agreement between the drivers and bus owners and to learn afresh the ABC of driving lessons at an expensive fees which was much more than the driver's license.

It came as a great relief after settlement initiated by the District Commissioner’s Office of Kinondoni and life returned to normal pace. It was reported that the bus owners’ association did not participate in the strike for best reasons known to themselves.

The transportation system from and to Bagamoyo was also disrupted and many people who were either visitors or residents frequenting to Dar es Salaam found themselves helpless. Some were seen walking long distances while others used the “bodaboda” transport (motorcycles) despite heavy rains. All now seems to be normal life after  the strike was called off..
