Machine and drivers’ skills were put to rigorous tests in a sprint rally organized by Mzizima Motor Sports Club in Bagamoyo on Sunday afternoon. Although the dusty track length was only 1.5 kms but it was up and down the hill with tricky turns and twists to be covered in less than ninety seconds.

Out of 37 entries, less than ten drivers just managed to cover the track in less than ninety seconds, one car experienced front wheel tyre burst (the only car driven by a lady driver), two breakdown which needed to be towed away and one almost went topsy- turvy just  when the driver was negotiating a left turn. No one was hurt as volunteers and track officials used human power to put it aright.

Hundreds of motor rally enthusiasts almost forgot to breathe when the teenager Jamil Khan driving his Subaru all-wheel-drive twice covered the track in less than 170 seconds and snatched the Best Overall Trophy in the Sprint Rally. He also received the first trophy in his class of all-wheel-drive vehicles.

The only Lady Driver, Shazia Khatau in Nissan Xtrail, despite having got a burst front tyre, quickly came back in high spirits and managed to finish the track but speed-wise not as good as her competitors. She was awarded a “MMSC Rally Queen” trophy. The Chairperson of Mzizima Motor Sports Club, also a Lady, Hidaya Thabit Kamanga worked tirelessly with event Secretary Azim Somji and Clerk of the Course Jabu Maalim and Faheem Aloo to keep the crowd on their toes.

All the participants were awarded participating certificates and about seven Sponsors were well applauded and awarded recognition certificates.

The event was divided in five categories namely Rally Cars; Two wheel drive cars; All wheel drive cars; Sports Utility Vehicles and 4x4 wheel vehicles. Three best winners from each category were awarded trophies by Sponsors and veteran rally drivers.
