KIWANGWA, BAGAMOYO

The
“Tuberculosis Day” which will be more of an awareness programme for the public will be
held at a road-side town of Kiwangwa, forty kms from Bagamoyo town. The event
will be celebrated with an exciting soccer match between Coast Stars from
Bagamoyo and Kiwangwa Rangers.
The
event will be held on Saturday 26th March 2016 at an open ground
where Kiwangwa residents and villagers from nearby villages will flock to the
town.
The
soccer match, which appears to be a much-talked about event will begin at
4.00pm at the football pitch of a primary school. The winner will be awarded a
goat and the looser will take a rooster.
The
one-day programme has been organized by Community Advisory Board (CAB)
officials spearheaded by coordinator of Ifakara Health Institute Bagamoyo
Branch, Dr. Omar Juma. CAB is community based body which coordinates with IHI
in conducting trials drugs of new TB medicines. There are 34 appointed officers
in the CAB from twelve villages in Bagamoyo District.
The
CAB is seen as a standard practice for clinical vaccine and drug trials
world-wide. The objective of formation of CAB is to properly educate and
empower elected CAB Members to become full partners in all research activities
concerning the public within Bagamoyo district.
All the members are being trained in seminars,
learning the basic method of conducting their duties as contained in the
Official Toolkit.The meetings are held every three months under the instructions
of Dr. Omar Juma at the premises of IHI Bagamoyo Branch. The last meeting was
held on Saturday 12th March.
At
the same seminar, an hour was used to educate and register CAB members in a
programme conducted on mobile phones in respect of pregnant women, the basics
of child delivery and precautions to be taken by mother-to-be, a few basic
lessons for the helpers of mother-to-be, to assist those wanting to know more
of the programme.
The
programme now popularly called “WAZAZI NIPENDENI” (Parents Love Me) was well
conducted by facilitator Ali Omar Ali. CAB Members were registered for
receiving the educational question-answer tips and more interested people would
be registered so as to improve health care in general.
