54TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

THE NATION IMPLEMENTS CLEAN-UP PROGRAMME

The 54th Year Independence Anniversary of Mainland Tanzania was observed nation-wide with actions of cleanliness and thus observe general hygienic conditions. The newly installed 5th President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. John P. Magufuli opted for hygienic and general cleanliness of the country rather than incurring huge expenditure for celebrations.

The Presidential Call was perfectly supported by the nation, including the President himself and the First Lady who joined people in collecting garbage and keeping the front side of State House and fish market up to the required standard. The Prime Minister, Hon. Majaliwa Kassim Majaliwa and his team carrying broom, spades armed with protection gloves joined hands with local residents to clean the area of Kariakoo  known to be always shabby.

Immediate Past President Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and his Spouse Salma Kikwete were at Chalinzi doing a similar exercise of cleaning up the area along with the residents of the area. The mass media, including TV Channels and newspapers carried the same stories of “Uhuru Day” with cleanliness.

In Bagamoyo, the District Commissioner’s Office took the lead by observing several places where general cleanliness was done. Workers from District Municipal Council with Bagamoyo Member of Parliament Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa used slashers and broom to clean up the areas close to their offices

More news: Science students from thirteen countries studying at AIMS in Bagamoyo join the call to indulge in the cleanliness campaign.......read on.

Later in the noon hours, students from African Institute for Mathematical Sciences led by their director Prof. Mark Roberts and several other lecturers took up the slashers, brooms and pangas to clean up the overgrown bushes right in front of the German Boma.

The fifty students from thirteen African countries were  given a short talk about the philosophy of  “Hapa ni kazi tuu” (here its work and work only), the catch-word of the President Dr. John Magufuli. He said this philosophy has spread throughout East Africa. It was heartening to see that the students from different countries were practically involving themselves in supporting Tanzania Government.

A FILM IN THE MAKING

LOCAL FILM WITH INTERNATIONAL CAST

Bagamoyo: A local film in Kiswahili language with international unknown cast including Tanzanian actors is being filmed in the historic town of Bagamoyo. The story has some action and is also clouded with mystical incidents of  Jinns sequences.

The lead actors are American Derek Sheridin and Chinese beautiful lady more popular by the name of Fatuma than her real name Meng Xian Ying. Both of them speak Kiswahili fluently and easily mix with the film makers, friends or local on lookers.

The role of the Jinn is played by the slim Tanzanian Flora Andrea who by nature of the role she was playing appears to be very serious even during off the shooting time. May be she wanted to live the role like a true Jinn! During the shooting time, she appears and disappears from the scene on the instructions of the director.

Talking of  Jinn which is likely to be a topic of discussion, arising out of the movie, is a common topic at a place like Bagamoyo. My research work reveals that man is stated to have been created from clay while Jinns from a flame of fire. According to religious belief, the Jinn is described as a definite species of living being.

They are created out of fire and like man, may believe or disbelieve, accept or reject guidance. Jinns are personalized beings who enjoy a certain amount of free will and thus will be asked to account for their actions and thoughts.

The film which is under process, according to Chief Photographer, Ally Issa Hassan, portrays  Flora Andrea as a Jinn who transforms from a Jinn to Human Being or to any other form as she likes. The idea is both interesting and enjoyable once it is viewed on the screen.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR LIONS

THREE-DAYS OF TRAINING AT REGIONAL LIONS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
AT TRAVELLERS LODGE, BAGAMOYO 20TH TO 22ND NOVEMBER 2015

Fifty Lions Members attended leadership training at Bagamoyo  under the auspices of  Multiple District 411 with six countries under its umbrella. The three-day hectic training was conducted by four highly qualified trainers spearheaded by Past Governor and Past Mutlple Councilo Chairman Lion Murtaza Dungarwala from Mombasa Kenya.

The Coordinator of the entire programme from its embryonic stages to the conclusion was meticulously administered by RLLI Trainer,  2nd Vice District Governor, Eng. Rizwan Qadri.

The main topics included the art of public speaking, motivating club members, time management, working in teams, Lions fundamentals, goal setting and diversity. Considering the large number of attendees (50), the classes were divided into two groups. The style of imparting knowledge was mostly person to person, and hence almost each and every person managed to involve himself/herself in practically all the lessons.

Two topics, the art of public speaking and working in teams appeared to have attracted many students. Most Lions, at one time or the other take up leadership position because leaders change every year. Hence they are groomed to speak in front of the public without any hesitation.

The opening ceremony of the three-day seminar was performed by District Governor Lion Haiderali Gangji and the closing ceremony by Multiple Council Chairperson PDG Lion Wilson Ndesanjo. The students stayed at Travellers Lodge and classes were conducted in two different halls at the same venue by the beach side.

"NO ELECTRIC SUPPLY DUE TO FALLEN POLES"

FALLEN ELECTRIC POLES DISRUPT SUPPLY

Bagamoyo was a total black-out on Tuesday night after disruption of electric supply caused by the collapse of three electric poles in a remote area. The twelve hours during the day time of Wednesday was a similar story of “no electricity”.

The Emergency Unit of TANESCO supported by their well-qualified  engineers were busy throughout the day to replace the three fallen electric poles. It was said that one of the wooden poles  broke into two pieces but all in all, work was in progress by the time this story was written.

The Branch Manager of TANESCO, Mr. Edward Eustard  said his work force was expected to accomplish the  difficult task before sun-set of Wednesday if all went well. The location of the site where the poles collapsed were somewhere near Kitopeni. The main electric supply to Bagamoyo main town and the surrounding areas passes through this location.

Work could have finished earlier but due to the fact that the site could only be located or approached during day time, considerable time had elapsed before actual  repair work had started.

Bagamoyo had  experienced heavy congestion of cloud during the early part of the Wednesday morning but there was no rain to disrupt work of the TANESCO Emergency  Unit.
